Large diameter seamless steel tube – centrifugal casting
The current supply condition of large diameter seamless steel tubes in Taiwan
There is no seamless steel tube manufacturer using traditional manufacturing method (piercing and rolling) in Taiwan. (The only seamless steel tube corporation, Walsin Lihwa’s factory was located in China instead of Taiwan)
The rolled seamless steel tubes are imported mainly, however there is the material limitation. SS 304 and SS 316 are common in the market and smaller diameter seamless steel tubes are also easier to purchase.
However, it is difficult to get the large diameter seamless steel tubes and it is almost impossible to buy the large diameter seamless steel tubes of special steel. For example, heat-resistant alloys and superalloy.
It’s not necessary to import large diameter seamless heat-resistant steel tubes
The costs of procurement and stock are high if importing the large diameter seamless steel tubes not be produced by centrifugal casting. Because it is not suitable for manufacturing tubes with small quantities by the traditional seamless steel tube production way ( piercing, rolling …etc). Customers often purchase the quantity more than their actual demands.
It is normal to develop wrought heat-resistant materials by centrifugal casting technique. Different centrifugal casting manufacturers have their own specifications of heat-resistant alloys and the high grade heat-resistant alloys are without the constraint of patents.
Melting the liquid metal with the proper volume and pouring the liquid into the near shape mold to do the rotation by high speed is centrifugal casting. This manufacturing method is good to produce small order quantity especially for the special steel production. For instance, large diameter seamless heat-resistant steel tubes.
We found out that most customers purchased our large diameter seamless heat-resistant steel tubes are the end users. They purchased the new seamless steel tubes to replace the worn ones. Considering all the aspects including costs, delivery time, customization, centrifugal casting is more cost-effective than rolling to produce large diameter seamless steel tubes no matter the material is common stainless steel or special steel.
Large diameter seamless heat-resistant steel tubes – Superalloy
Large diameter seamless superalloy tubes are as the catalyst tubes and pyrolysis tubes in the petrochemical industry. HK40, HT, HU and HP are the common heat-resistant alloys and they are the materials for catalyst and pyrolysis tubes in the early age. In the long run, those seamless heat-resistant steel tubes could not resist creep in the high temperature environment. Therefore, several centrifugal casting corporations modified the common heat-resistant alloys to become the higher grade materials to be applied in the high pressure and temperature condition. And the high-performance materials are superalloy.
Importing the large diameter seamless superalloy tubes are the mainstream now. To supply our local demands efficiently, manufacturing the tubes locally is better.
We have continued to develop seamless superalloy tubes for several years and Incoloy 800H the Ni-based alloy we have developed successfully.
We look forward to seeing our seamless superalloy tubes applied in Taiwanese petrochemical plants and bringing our seamless tubes manufactured by centrifugal casting to the international stage soon!
